When we plumb a new house now, we try to use an unvented hot water cylinder. These are dependant on the pressure of your water supply coming into the house. If you are on mains water there should not be a problem, if you are on a private water supply there are ways you can still fit one.

Q. What are the advantages of an unvented system.
A. They do away with the need for a storage tank in the attic, that in its self is a major plus, because there would be no pipes in the attic, so no risk of frost damage.
You get mains water at all taps so you get fresh water even when cleaning your teeth. The hot water supply is mains pressure the same as the cold.
You get amazing showers and a bath can be filled a lot quicker.
Q. Can I fit one into my existing house.
A. No problem normally and it can be done in a day.
Q. I have heard a number of complaints about them leaking, what is that about
A. There were a number of problems a few years ago. When they were made out of steel and had anodes fitted, people were not getting them serviced and the anodes replaced.
The type of cylinder we use is a stainless steel unit with 25 years warranty - so no problems.
